Sadie Johnson

Sadie Williams Johnson, 83, of Waco, passed away Sunday, May, 12, 2013. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., with Mitchell Parrish officiating.

Burial will follow at Crawford Cemetery. Visitation with her family will be Tuesday, 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Sadie was born February 27, 1930 near Anson, TX to Sidney and Minnie Williams. She attended Shiloh Baptist Church, where she met her future husband, Johnny. They were married August 14, 1948 in Waco.

After rearing her three boys, Sadie worked for her son, Randall, at Leslie’s Chicken Shack, and later spent many years as caterer for the Hamilton House, where she was known for her many “delightful” dishes. She was a member of Western Heights Baptist Church.

Sadie enjoyed hiking, skiing and sightseeing in the mountains of Colorado. Other favorite pastimes were crossword puzzles, bridge and playing dominoes and Wahoo with family and friends. She had a passion for collecting owls of every shape, size and color. She especially loved, and was loved by, her four grandchildren, Wendy, David, Chrystal and Austin.

Chrystal’s most treasured memory is snuggling together on the sofa, watching cartoons, while her grandmother did crossword puzzles. Wendy will always remember falling asleep while her grandmother read her stories and scratched her back.

Sadie was preceded in death by her son, Randall, and her brother, Louis.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Johnny Johnson; two sons, Jerry Johnson of Hewitt, and Glenn Johnson of Bertram, TX; a brother, Charles Williams of Bennington, OK; four grandchildren, Wendy Moody of Roanoke, TX, David Johnson of Port Lavaca, TX, Chrystal Davis of White Sands, NM and Austin Lott of Austin, TX; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to your favorite charity or Western Heights Baptist Church.
