Sam E. Campbell 92, of Waco, passed away on Monday, January 21st, at a local nursing home. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday January 25, 2013 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Kip Osborne officiating and burial at 2 p.m. Mt Olivet Cemetery in Ft. Worth with military honors. Visitation will be 5 to 7pm Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Sam was born April 6, 1920 to S.E. and Eva Campbell in Marmaduke, Arkansas. Sam graduated in 1938 from Northside High School in Ft. Worth. While attending TCU the war broke out and Sam joined the service in 1941 where he served as an UDT (Underwater Demolition Team) personnel in the Navy better known as the current Navy Seals. After his 4 year service in the Navy he was honorably discharged from the USS Hollis as Shipfitter First Class. Then in 1946 he met the love of his life, Helen Kubik, they were married and resided in Ft. Worth.
He then began a career in business which was mainly focused on manufacturing. He began his involvement with the Western Wear industries serving as Vice President and General Manager of Resistal Hats and Justin Industries. Later he accepted a position with Nocona Boot Company where he would retire as Vice President after 16 years. Sam was devoted to the Baptist Church serving the Lord with fellowship in prayer ministry, Sunday School teacher and served as a deacon for over 50 years. Sam always showed the better side that made him the outgoing person that he was in his community. He was active in the community where he served as President of several organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, Lions Club and the Nocona Water Board. He was Shriner and Mason for over 60 years and active where ever the family was located. Sam was a deacon at Western Heights Baptist Church and participated in the fellowship activities there in Waco.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen who had shared 66 years together and his parents.
He is survived by daughter, Linda Canaday and husband Wayne. Son Steven Campbell and Linda, grandson Shawn Campbell, granddaughter Ashley Margeson and husband Kyle, great-grandson Carter Margeson, great-granddaughter Kayleigh Campbell and numerous other family members and friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Providence Hospice and Regent Care for their compassion and excellent care during such a difficult time, and the family would also like to thank their special friends at LakeShore Estates.
