Sam H. Shurtleff, Jr. passed away Friday, July 31, 2009 in a local healthcare center. Funeral services will be 10:00 am Tuesday, at Western Heights Baptist Church, 6301 Bosque, with the Rev. Shelton Markham and the Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at the Smith Cemetery, Lampasas County. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque.
Sam was born July 30, 1923, in Lampasas to Sam and Dicie Smith Shurtleff. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, and attended Baylor University, graduating with a business degree in 1950. He married Glen Rose Callahan, and they shared almost 62 wonderful years together. He was employed by General Foods Corporation as a sales representative, retiring in 1979. Sam taught a men's Sunday School class in Western Heights Baptist Church. He was active in the Masonic Fraternity for over sixty years as a member of Fidelis Lodge #1127, Waco Scottish Rite Bodies, Karem Shrine and Past Patron McLennan of Chapter # 639 Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors are his wife, Glen Rose; son, Sam Shurtleff III and wife, Vicki; and grandsons, James and Allan Shurtleff of Lampasas.
