A rosary will be recited by Father David Leibham at 1:30 pm Sunday, September 14. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, 3 to 5 pm at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.
Samoila was born in Caumpulung Muscel, Romania on February 24, 1932 to Ion and Paraschiva Marton and spent the majority of his life living under communist rule. He married the love of his life, Maria Cirstea, in 1954. Samoila served three years in the military and then became a conductor on the railroad. In 1978, the pressures of living under communist rule became too much. Under the cover of darkness, Sam and one of his 13 children fled through the wilderness and crossed the border into Austria. There he lived for 1 year before securing a sponsor in America. Brother Jim Drysdale helped make arrangements to bring Samoila to the United States. Once here, he worked to earn enough money to bring his wife and children to the United States in 1980.
After coming to America, Samoila married Gloria Ramilo in 1991. He resided in Waco for the remainder of his life. Samoila spent time with his family and working in his beautiful flower garden. He also loved hunting, fishing, and traveling. After fighting heart disease for several years, Samoila took his last breath with his children by his side. He said his last prayer and went to meet his savior.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Luminita Marton; and grandsons, Claudiu Gorgan and Christian Marton.
Samoila is survived by his wife, Gloria; five sons, Ilie Marton, Sammy Marton, Jr, Daniel Marton, Cornel Marton, and Marius Marton; eight daughters, Lidia Gorgan, Ileana Jude, Marianna Lupu, Lucy Lupu, Nellie Lisenby, Donna Marton, Stela Mocuta, and Eve Prundeanu; mother of his children, Maria Marton; 54 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers; 4 sisters; and many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Patricia Ramilo; sister-in-law, Nelly Abrenica; and brother-in-law, Jose Ramilo, MD.
