Saundra S. Vasek of Waco passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Ascension Providence Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Graveside Funeral Service for family will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Oakwood Cemetery with Father Ryan Higdon officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be from 5-7:00 pm Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at OakCrest Funeral Home with a family rosary to follow.

Saundra was born on Christmas Day in 1943 to Edgar and Tess Daniels in Lamesa, TX. Shortly after her birth the family moved to a remote farm outside of Muleshoe, TX where she lived until the age of 14. The family then moved to Waco where she attended Reicher Catholic High and graduated from Connally High in 1962. To support her growing family, she enrolled in classes at McLennan Community College and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Baylor University with honors Magna cum Laude. She began working as a Medical Technologist at the VA Hospital in Waco and continued her studies to earn a master’s degree from Southwest Texas State University in Hospital Administration. She earned a Juris Doctorate from Baylor University and worked as a staff attorney at the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs Office on Regional Counsel in Waco.

In retirement, she enjoyed working with her husband on various art projects and living on their acreage in the country. He carved wooden birds and she would often contribute by painting his creations. She was an artist in her own right; painting, pottery and sculpting various works. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching but, most of all, she loved to spend time with her children and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, John A. Vasek; her parents; sister, Faye Billingsley; and brother, Edgar “Sonny” Daniels.

She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Turner and husband, Robert; son, Scott Anderson and wife, Teri; son, Brian Anderson and wife, Terri; sisters, Gail Dutch of Fort Worth and Tresa Gilchrest of Waco; grandchildren, Whitney Taylor (Tyson), Jordan Anderson (Leslie), Logan Anderson (Elena), Cameron Anderson, Kelciey Petter (Brian), Erika Anderson (Josh), Sara Anderson, Austin Anderson, Jacob Anderson, and Austin Turner (Krisan); great-grandchildren, Hunter, Halleigh, Payton, Parker, Kinnitty, Vann, Georgia Anne, Jordan, Joseph, and Hayden; along with many nieces and nephews.
