Savena Hogeland

Savena Julia (Ramirez) Hogeland, 74, of Waco, Texas, passed away in the loving presence of family on January 11, 2017 from complications of Leukemia. Visitation will be held at OakCrest Funeral Home on Sunday, January 15th from 3-5 p.m. Services will be held Monday, January 16th at 10 a.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Savena was born on June 19, 1942 in Waco, Texas, to Guadalupe and Conception Ramirez. Savena married the love of her life, Joe Hogeland, on March 9, 1965. She worked in retail most of her adult life, serving the public at Cox’s Department Store, Mervyn’s and until her death, Academy Sports. She was a dedicated and hard-working employee who took deep pride in her work. She was full of creativity, an amateur photographer, loved to travel, garden, and enjoyed watching Westerns. Her biggest sources of pride were her children and grandchildren. She had a heart of gold, a sweet disposition, and deeply loved the Lord. Her presence will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and co-workers.

She is preceded in death by Joe, her beloved husband of 39 years. Together, they had four children, Anthony Hogeland, and partner Jeffrey Hackett of Waco, Paula Hogeland Jones, and husband Alan of Urbandale, Iowa, Nancy Hogeland Bates, and husband Dennis Bates of Waco, and Travis Hogeland, and Darci Welsh of Waco. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Savena grew up in a large family whom she dearly loved. She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Lupe Ramirez, sisters Anita Lorence, Andrea Ruiz, and Lola Jimenez. Her surviving siblings include Modesta Chirieolla, Mary Moreno, Nellie Hedary, Jessie Ramirez, Ismael Ramirez, Elfie Hanson, and Joanie Garcia. She is also survived and loved by many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
