Scotty Bates

Scotty Bates, 87, of Waco, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home by Rev. Curtis Holland.

Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Restland Cemetery in Gatesville.

Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 11, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.

Scotty was born in Electra, Tex., to Frank and Osha (Scott) Bates. He served in the Army during WWII and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He came to Waco in 1956, and on March 12, 1959 married Marie Lander.

He worked for General Tire in Waco for 30 years in the mixing department. He was a member of the General Tire Retirement Club, Sons of the American Revolutions, and the United Church of Christ.

Scotty was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie Lander Bates; his first wife, Audry Thorp, and their daughter, Gail Bates; and three brothers, Frank Jr., Lilborn, and Don Bates.

He is survived by his son, Gary W. Bates, of Waco.
