Seth Dorrell passed away Sunday, June 16, 2013 on Father’s Day from a cardiac arrest. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at OakCrest Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 - 7 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco.
Seth was an amazing father and husband who lived a life of love, passion and travel. In their almost nine years of marriage Seth and Sarah traveled to Thailand, Peru, Indonesia, Mexico, and Haiti to name a few. Seth and Sarah spent eight years in Philadelphia serving and living in one of the lowest-income communities in Philadelphia and serving with their church. It was during this time in 2009 that their daughter Finley Grace was born.
Seth never ceased serving, championing the cause of the poor or loving the Lord. In 2011, after much prayer and support from church community, family and friends Seth, Sarah and Finley made a 2-year commitment to live and serve in Ferrier, Haiti. During this time Seth and Sarah worked together on programs of Economic Development, Public Health, Education, and clean water.
After four months of living in Haiti Seth was diagnosed with rectal cancer and moved with his family to Waco where he underwent a year of treatment and surgeries. Even through this Seth remained joyful, funny and loving. Despite all he’d been through, he never ceased to thank God for all he had been given. He loved his wife, daughter and family immensely.
In Waco he continued to work for Mission Waco/Mission World in the capacity of the director of Mission World. Seth, Sarah and Finley also attended Church Under the Bridge. Through these roles Seth was able to continue to work in Haiti, Mexico and India he was so deeply passionate about.
He is survived by his mom and dad, Jimmy and Janet Dorrel; his wife, Sarah; his daughter, Finley; his brothers, Josh and his wife, Danielle and Zach Dorrell; his sister, Crystalina Fajardo and her husband, Angelo. Seth is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Timothy Pfanner and Nancy Pfanner; his sisters-in-law, Joy and Wendi Pfanner; Seth had two nieces and a nephew, Zoe and Zane Dorrell and Nielah Fajardo.
