Sheila W. Cowan, 62, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at her residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wes Eades officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque. A memorial video of her life will be shown continuously during the visitation.
Sheila was born October 24, 1941, in Waco to Floyd and Almeda (House) Wilkes. After graduating from Waco High School, she earned a B.S. at Sam Houston State Teachers College and a master of education at Tarleton State University. She retired from TSTC after 18 years as the Technical Newswriting Instructor. She enjoyed serving as a counselor with W.I.S.D. and Communities in Schools and was a member of Friends of Waco High. She was also a freelance writer.
She was preceded in death by her father and a son, Kelly Floyd Cowan.
Sheila leaves a mother, Meda Wilkes of Waco; a son, Charles K. Cowan and wife Chris of Harker Heights; a sister, Elaine Smith and husband Barry of Mesquite; granddaughter, Danella Cowan of Harker Heights, and grandson, Joshua Cowan of Harker Heights, and special friend and caregiver, Jeri Pauling of Waco.
