Stanley Swift

Stanley Hill Swift, Jr., 74, of Waco, died peacefully Wednesday, October 1, 2008 surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2008 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Chuck Treadwell, the Rev. Brad St. Romain and the Rev. Frank Mangum officiating. Graveside services will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video will be shown during the visitation.

Stan was born June 7, 1934 in Cameron to Stanley Hill Swift and Frances Brown Dossett Swift. During World War II, his family lived in Boston, New York City, Seattle and then Waco. He attended the Hill School in Pottstown, PA., and graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron. After attending The University of Texas he graduated with a B.A. from Baylor. He married Cynthia Colgin Miller July 16, 1955. He started his family and career in Houston and soon returned to Waco where he owned and operated Swift Outdoor Advertising for many years.

Throughout Stan's life, he was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, many civic organizations and outdoor advertising associations. Stan enjoyed his time on Lake Waco with friends and family. An avid basketball and football fan, the Texas Longhorn's fight song announced each incoming call to his cell phone. He was always surrounded by a circle of steadfast friends and family who will miss his great sense of humor.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Colgin Miller Swift; son, Stanley Hill Swift III and wife, Mary; daughter, Elizabeth Swift Copeland and husband, Morgan; sister, Sarah Harrison Voyles and husband, Richard of Waco; granddaughters, Elizabeth Sentell Swift and Sarah Dossett Swift, Nell Elizabeth, Kate Morgan and Carson Carlyle Colgin Copeland, all of Houston. Stan is also survived by nieces, Frances Dossett Harrison of Waco, Harriet Harrison Leavell of Houston and Carter Harrison Jackson of Allen, TX; and numerous family members.

Pallbearers will be Blake Browder, Jack Burgess, Sammy Citrano, Phil Cooper, Charles Evans, Dudley Haas, Jim Haller, Jim Holley, Monte Hulse and James Wood.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Stan's memory may be given to St. Paul's Episcopal Day School, 517 Columbus Ave. Waco 76701.
