Steven Burtchell

Steven Wayne (Steve) Burtchell, 51, of China Spring, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at his residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Patrick Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Steve was born in Temple on August 12, 1958 to Andrew James and Shirley (Pairett) Burtchell. He was a graduate of Belton High School Class of 1976, and at first worked in construction. He married Lisa Ann Bankhead in Temple on December 6, 1980.

After her parents started the Brookhaven Youth Ranch near West in 1986, he and Lisa lived at the ranch and he became a supervisor working with troubled youth. He was very proud of the youths who he helped to turn around their lives. In 1994, he became a cath lab technician at Providence Hospital, and just recently received his 15 year service pin. Steve enjoyed fishing and dove hunting.

Steve was a wonderful son, husband, father, and sibling, and you never saw him mad or agitated. Steve will be remembered for his great sense of humor, but most importantly, Steve loved the Lord and knew who he was in Christ. He was a member of Gholson Baptist Church.

Steve is survived by his wife, Lisa, of China Spring; son, Zachary Wayne Burtchell of Kerrville; his parents, A.J. and Shirley Burtchell of Temple; two brothers, Robert James Burtchell of Temple, and Terry Lynn Burtchell and wife, Brandy, of Troy; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Chad Necklar, Kevin Hlavenka, Greg Kasberg, Jerry Weaver, Mike Jansing, and Mike Kocian.

Honorary pallbearers will be the physicians and staff of the Providence Cath Lab.
