Steven James Wallace, 53, of Waco, passed away Friday, April 15, 2005.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Wood Cemetery near Jonesboro. DIRECTIONS TO CEMETERY: From Gatesville, take Highway 36 towards Jonesboro. Go about 12 miles and you will see a sign saying "Wood Cemetery." You will turn left on County Road 194 and go about a mile. The cemetery is on the left.
Steven was born March 15, 1952, in Gatesville. He graduated from LaVega High School as Valedictorian. He graduated cum laude from Texas A&M twice, in 1975 with a degree in physics and in 1978 with a degree in electrical engineering.
He became an expert computer engineer at Texas Instruments, later becoming a TI Fellow. His many accomplishments included developing TI's first laptop and creating the voice capabilities of Speak 'n Spell. He later worked for Dell Computers, retiring in 2000. He held many patents relating to computers. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilburn James Wallace.
He leaves his mother, Harveylee Wallace of Waco; two sisters, Candace Jean Hurd and husband, David, of Waco, and Jacquelin Whitford and husband, Geof, of Santa Rosa, Ca., and two nieces, Leighanne Barron and husband, Craig of Killeen, and Donna Jean Groppel of Dallas.
