Dr. Steven Lee Wimberly, 55, of China Spring, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque, with the Rev. Duane Hoxworth officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at OakCrest Funeral Home. A memorial video honoring his life will be shared during the visitation hours and prior to the service.
Dr. Wimberly was born June 26, 1951 in Baytown, the son of Sherman and Alma (Roberts) Wimberly. He graduated from the University of Texas in Austin in 1982 with a degree in chemical engineering. He attended medical school at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at Fort Worth, graduating in 1994. He served three years in residency in Hazard, Kentucky.
He was at San Angelo for two years before coming to Waco in 1998 where he was a physician at the Hillcrest Clinic in Bellmead. He was also on the Hillcrest Medical Center Policy Board.
He married Kim Anita Galey on October 1, 1977 in League City. He was a member of Antioch Community Church, and the American Academy of Family Physicians.
He was a devoted husband and loving father who had a servant's heart. Patients particularly admired him for his care and compassion.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1979.
He is survived by his wife, Kim Wimberly; two daughters, Jennifer Cypert and husband, Jeff of Waco, and their son, Zachary, and Bethany Wimberly, a student at McLennan Community College; a son, Nathan Wimberly, a student at the Texas Christian Academy of Waco; his mother, Alma Pennington of Alvin; two brothers, the Rev. Dueward Wimberly and wife, Sharon of Texas City, and John Wimberly of Alvin; two sisters, Sharron Powell and husband, BJ of Port Mansfield, and Carolyn Long and husband, Bob of Humble, and numerous nieces and nephews.
