Susan Nix

Mary Susan Nix, 72, of Lorena joined her beloved parents on Sunday, November 12, 2023, passing peacefully and naturally into her savior’s loving arms during the night. While those she has left behind deeply mourn her passing, we are comforted in fully knowing she is rejoicing, singing, and hugging all those who preceded her in death. Susan loved with a breadth and depth that simply cannot be rivaled. She could remedy a bad day with one of her chocolate chip pound cakes, brownies, or cookies. She was eager to be present and helpful and live life in a way that was pleasing to God. She exemplified being a good friend and listener. She always had the right words at just the right time. There was not a single song from any genre that she could not sing and list the title and artist.

To honor her incredible legacy, please join the family as they host a Celebration of Life at 11:00am on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Pleasant Olive Missionary Baptist Church, Waco, with Rev. E. Shaun Williams officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.

Susan was born May 29, 1951, in Terrell, Texas to Frank and Margie Farnsworth. She enjoyed the majority of her youth in Lubbock where she graduated from Monterey High School in 1969 and shortly thereafter married her high school sweetheart, Dewayne. After traveling by his side through various deployments throughout the United States and Germany, she returned stateside with a love of all things German - chocolate, Volkswagen, Hummels and most of all her son, Lewis Matthew. They moved to Waco where she enjoyed living near her parents again. After acclimating to the area and navigating a new path, she married James Nix. James and Susan quickly became a force to be reckoned with welcoming their daughter Stephanie Alexandra who they proudly raised in his hometown of Waco. Susan made friends wherever she went and especially through her positions at local businesses such as Binswanger Glass, Dan’s Dairy Queen and eventually the family business which she co-owned, Ambold’s Key, Lock & Alarm.

Susan was a fiercely loved wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to numerous people. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margie Farnsworth, and various aunts and uncles. Family keeping her memory alive include her husband, James N. Nix; her son, Matthew Howell, his wife Natascha, and their children, Sophia, Samuel, Francisco and Isaac; her daughter, Alex Vaughan, her husband Robert, and their children, Madrid, Margie and Moxie; her stepdaughter, Heather Cain, her husband Adam, and their daughter, Marley; her brother, Floyd Farnsworth and his wife, Joyce; her sister, Debbie Lundgren and husband, Steve; her niece, Chanda Pearson, her husband Greg, and their children, Makenna, Aisley, and Isaiah; her niece, Tate Lundgren; her nephew, Andrew Farnsworth, his wife Stephanie, and their children, Allison and Adam; her nephew, Nick Lundgren and his daughter, McKenna; and many other dear cousins, relatives and friends.
