Thomas H. Jewell, 81, of Waco, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at his residence. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2007 at the Chapel Hill Cemetery, just south of Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video honoring his life will be shared during the visitation.

Thomas was born in Waco to Joe and Alpha Jewell on August 2, 1925. He served in the Marines in World War II. He married Lorene Deaton on September 9, 1950. He graduated from Texas A&M University, Class of 1951, and was a proud Aggie. He was a registered professional engineer, and was a member of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers. He was also an associate member of the Heart of Texas Builders Association.

He was vice president and co-owner of Jewell Concrete Products for 23 years, and was the president of Texas Brick for 23 years. He enjoyed spending time on his ranch in McLennan County, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and many friends. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was always there when his beloved family needed him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dollie Kelly.

Thomas is survived by his wife of 56 years, Lorene Jewell; three sons, Thomas Jewell and wife, Kay, Joe Jewell and Frank Jewell; two grandsons, Christopher and TJ; four granddaughters, Mandy, Becky, Amanda, and Eva; and several great-grandchildren, including Shelby, Sheldon, Jason and numerous others.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Harris, Bruce Carter, W.R. Tate, Robert McAfee, Henry Carter, Leroy Kneupper, and Dr. John Starr, MD.
