Thomas Leon Penney, 65, went home to live in eternal peace with our Lord and Savior on October 31, 2006.
A visitation will be held at Oak Crest Funeral Home Thursday, November 2 from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. for those who want to join the family as they celebrate Tom Penney's life.
Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2006 at 10 Oakwood Cemetery.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and coach. Tom leaves behind a legacy of strength and courage. His spirit and determination as he battled years of pain and illness served as inspiration to all who knew and loved him; he embodied the term, 'Never Give Up.'
Tom attended Ft. Worth Castleberry HS and later obtained his Bachelor's Degree from East Texas State University before embarking on a career, coaching high school sports. His knowledge of, and passion for the game of basketball became the foundation that underscored many successful years as a coach and mentor. He was dedicated to helping young people, inspiring self-confidence in countless students and athletes, and always emphasizing the importance of education.
An avid Baylor Lady Bear Basketball fan, he also enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia and fishing. He was a fan of high school football and girl's basketball, attending area games when possible.
He was born March 14, 1941 to Thomas M. and Martha L. Penney. He is survived by his wife Deb Penney of McGregor, and children – Tony Penney of Garland, Tanya and Gary Overstreet of Quinlan, Angie and Vino Zertuche of Rockwall, Dean Penney of Merit, Jeff Penney and Pam Sippel of Parker, CO., Chad and Stacey Noland of Corpus Christi, and Brandy Penney of McGregor. He took great pride in his 14 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jeremy, Tommy, Tabatha, Jessica, Anthony, Chad, Brian, Tyler, Jesse, Kelly, Jacob, Caleb and Heather and 7 great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers are Tony Penney, Dean Penney, Jeff Penney, Chad Noland, Gary Overstreet, Jeremy Overstreet, Tommy Overstreet, and Vino Zertuche.
