Thomas Archie Turnipseede, 86, of Axtell, passed away Thursday, December 17, 2009. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21 at the Church of the Open Door with Pastor Ronnie Holmes and Associate Pastor Danny Fielding officiating.

Burial will be at Waco Memorial Park.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco.

Thomas Archie Turnipseede was born on September 29, 1923 in McClenahan, Texas to Jasper David Turnipseed and Roberta Beard Turnipseed.

On August 18, 1945, Thomas married the love of his life, Dorothy Jane Daniel. They married shortly after his serving in the Army in World War II as a truck driver hauling military supplies, equipment and personnel for the 20th Armored Division. He entered into the Army in December 1942 and served in France, Germany, Austria, Holland, Belgium and England. Thomas Archie Turnipseede was awarded GC Ribbon, ETO Ribbon, ATOR President Citation and Battle Star.

Thomas (also known as Tommy or TA), started his own Commercial Refrigeration business in Waco as Turnipseede Refrigeration Co., Inc. Thomas's professional career consisted of sales and service of new and refurbished equipment. He retired after 58 years.

Thomas became a Mason in 1946 and was a member of Lee Lockwood in Waco. He also loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, farming and ranching.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper David and Roberta Turnipseed; a son, Thomas Larry Turnipseede; brothers, Jasper David Jr., James Edwin, Aubrey Lee, William Omer, Harvey Leslie, and John Melvin.

Some members of the Turnipseede family spell their last name without the "e" at the end. Thomas stated he used the "e" at the end to keep the name from growing.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jane Turnipseede; daughter, Donna Gayden and her husband Troy; son, James David Turnipseede; his brother, Loyd Melvin Turnipseede and his wife Mable; sister, Artie Dehart and her husband Elmer; grandson, Tommy Barnett and his wife Delinda; grandson, Kyle Gayden; granddaughter, Casey Gayden; great grandchildren, Brittaney and Gregory Beltran; and many nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be William "Pete" Kirven, Don Barnett, Tommy Barnett, Jason Davis
Kyle Gayden, and Gregory Beltran.
