Tom C. Henson 92, of Waco passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at a Waco hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 1, 2009 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Dr. Doug Shafer officiating, burial will follow at Lorena Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home 4520 Bosque Blvd. Waco, TX.
Tom was born August 29, 1916, in Lorena, Texas to Zeb C. and Essie Ola (Hutchinson) Henson. Tom served his country proudly as one of the Greatest Generation. He fought in North Africa and in Italy with the U.S. Army in the 36th Division, 143rd Infantry Regiment during WWII. Tom lost his hand while serving his country. He was an avid Texas Ranger fan, loved his family, his country and his two cats. He was a member of the D. A. V. Chapter 3 and V. F. W. Post # 6008. He worked as an adjudicator at the V.A. Regional Office in Waco.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kathy Hummer; and son-in-law, Jerry Hummer; five brothers; and four sisters.
Tom is survived by his wife, Kathryn; son, Tom C. Henson and wife, Mickie of Corpus Christi; stepson, Tony Newburey of Germany; brothers, Jim Henson and wife, Doris of Robinson and Weldon Henson and wife, Frieda of Robinson; grandchildren, Chris Henson, Corey Buckner, Kristy Kelley and Melissa Adams;three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lucy Henson and Mary Henson; and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
