Thomas Palacios, 89, passed away on June 13, 2024 peacefully surrounded by his loved ones after battling against several illnesses.
Services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph F. Geleney officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.
Thomas was born and raised in a Hispanic home. His father was a farmer in the Bremond area. Thomas was a bright, strong man and he also became a farmer. He loved the outdoors. He was also a man who loved to play baseball and he made sure that his sons were competing in sports as well.
Thomas rose up to become a defender for his widowed mother and her three children. He was able to provide a roof over their heads.
Thomas married his beloved wife, Basilisa in 1951. Their matrimony of 72 years was extraordinary. They started their lives out with nothing, but they were blessed in all they did together. Thomas always said that he would do anything for his sons and daughters. They moved to West Texas for a better life. It was there that he and his wife educated their six children and instilled in them a desire to worship God.
Thomas had a mighty singing voice. His tenor voice rivaled that of Pavarotti. He knew the lyrics to numerous Mexican conjunto songs from memory.
Thomas also had an ability to tell jokes one after another. He could keep you laughing for hours. He was quite the entertainer.
Thomas worked hard and he faced adversity head on.
Some of his grandkids would say, “There’s nothing my Grandpa can’t do”.
He was preceded in death by his father, Emilio Palacios; mother, Concepcion Pinon; son, Samuel Palacios; daughter, Linda Wickes; and many brothers and sisters.
