Tommy Whitlock

Tommy Dean Whitlock, age 68, of Waco, passed away October 1, 2010 at his home. A celebration of Tommy's life will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel, 4520 Bosque Blvd., with Pastor Barry Camp officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Born in Waco February 18, 1942, Tommy was the son of Richard and Myrtle Whitlock. He married Lydia Griffin on May 20, 1961 in Waco. He graduated from LaVega High School in 1960, received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Baylor University in 1964 and a Masters of Science in Education in 1972. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church.
Tommy began teaching math at LaVega High School in the fall of 1964. Later he held positions as Assistant Principal, Principal of the High School and later Assistant Superintendent. He retired as Superintendent of the LaVega School System in June 1994. After retiring he taught at an alternative school for at-risk students and later worked as a documentation specialist at Allergan for 10 years. Volunteering at Providence Hospital Emergency Center after retirng from Allergan, was one of the ways he fulfilled his dream of making a difference and helping people. Two other contributions Tommy made was to serve two terms as Mayor of Bellmead and was a member of the Bellmead Lion's Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepbrother Billy Willis.

He is survived by his wife, Lydia; daughter, Annette Whitlock; son and daughter in law, Perry and Tanya Whitlock; stepbrother, Duwayne Peters; stepsister, Rochelle Peters, stepbrother; Bobby Willis; two grandsons, Jonathon and Andrew.

Pallbearers will be Jay Teakell, Ted Coleman, Tom Hill, Tom Hill, Norman Hoffman, George Dixon, and Jack James

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sarcoma Center of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, Texas 77210-4486.
