OBITUARY

Travis "Darrell" Stephens, 60, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2004 at Hillcrest Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be held at OakCrest Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Nelson of Christian Life Church officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque (Located across from the Heart of Texas Fair Complex).

A memorial video honoring his life will be shown during visitation. The Children's Playroom will be available during the visitation.

Mr. Stephens was born Dec. 31, 1943, in Waco to Chester and Mattie Jane Stephens. He was the 10th of eleven children. He married Grace Nell Brown on March 7, 1964. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who made him feel young again. "Big Darrell" is what his friends affectionately called him. He was a long time member of Christian Life Church. He was a retired metal craftsman. He spent many seasons at the Lake Air Little League fields doing what he loved, coaching boy's baseball.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eva Allen; and brothers, Coy Stephens who died in infancy, and Roy Stephens.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Grace Stephens of Waco; son, Darrell Stephens Jr. and wife Christie of Lorena, daughters, Lisa Gain and husband Robert of Waco; Teresa Wirtz and husband John of Burkburnett; and son, Donnie Stephens of Waco. Surviving grandchildren are Jason Gain of Arizona, Lauren Fauver of Waco, Sean Stephens, Shane Stephens, Marshall Wirtz, Mallory Wirtz, Skylar Connor, Joshua Gain, and Caleb Gain and Michelle Stephens. Surviving sisters are Oma Fay Carrigan and Husband Austin of Waco, Gerald Brewer formerly of Waco, Marie Custer and husband John of Waco; brothers are Bud Stephens and wife Arlene of Arizona, W. C. Stephens of Waco; Abby Stephens of Waco; and R. D. Stephens and wife Deborah of Robinson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins who love him very much.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Custer, Coy Brewer, Terry Custer, Brad Custer, A. D. "Bubba" Stephens and Ronnie Stephens.
