Vergel F. Hamilton, 83, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2006 in Huntsville. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Dan Niedecken officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hills Mausoleum. Visitation will be 5 – 8 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Vergel was born January 8, 1924 in Groesbeck to R.D. and Mary (VanDyke) Hamilton. He lived in the Waco area from 1956 until recently when he moved to Huntsville to be near his family. He was the former owner of Highway Machinery Co. of Waco and Verlo, Inc., a homebuilding company in Lorena. He served in the Army Air Force in WWII, and was a former member of the Lorena city council. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and raising cattle, and was an avid morning coffee drinker at Brookshire.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by two daughters, Angie Ellisor and husband, Arlie of Huntsville, and Pam Baird and husband, Wayne of Mesquite; five grandchildren, Shae Baker, Eric Maxwell, Shanna Moseley, Christi Adair, and Anna Tharp; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Schoonover of Angleton; half-sister, Sue Willard of Riverside and half-brother, Sam Usary and wife, Peggy of Goldthwaite.
The family especially thanks caregiver Sheryle Ellisor.
Pallbearers will be Devin Moseley, Eric Maxwell, Jason Moseley, Robert Tharp, Kevin Schoonover, and Keith Baker.
