OBITUARY
Vertia Mae Bledsoe Sims, 62, of Waco, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Williams officiating. The wake will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2009 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Vertia was born April 2, 1947 in Waco to Oscar Lee Bledsoe and Ruby Smith Bledsoe. She married Lamar Massie Sims on July 10, 1979 in Marlin. Vertia was an active deaconate and usher at Greater Bibleway and was known to be a very good Christian counselor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Keith Sims; sisters, Elnora Redrick and Helen Evans; and grandson, DeAndrea Bledsoe.
Vertia is survived by her loving husband, Lamar Sims of Waco; sons, Darrick Bledsoe and family, Octavis Sims and family, Phillip Nichols and family all of Waco, and Bryant Nichols and family of Virginia Beach, VA.; adopted son, James McCutcheon and wife, Peggy of Ft. Worth; sister, Nina Bledsoe of Waco; brothers, Oscar Bledsoe, Jr., Collius Bledsoe, and Lynn Bledsoe all of Waco; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
