Miss Veta Tiner passed away at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Hospital on January 3, 2009. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.W. Sellers and the Rev. Dr. Don Johnson, pastor of Robinson Drive United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Veta was born August 22, 1908 in the Blevens community in Falls County to Jeff Davis Tiner and Melissa E. Brasher Tiner.

She attended school there for two years before moving to Waco where she was enrolled in Bells Hill Elementary. Veta was the last survivor of eight siblings.

Miss Tiner was a lifelong Methodist, having accepted Christ at Clay Avenue Methodist Church in 1925, and subsequently followed that congregation through mergers to Asbury Methodist Church and Robinson Drive United Methodist Church.

She served on the later church's board of Stewards and continued in Christian service until her death. Her employment included long years at Goldsten-Migel Department Store and Armstrong Jewelry.

She is survived by numerous nieces including Vivian Renfrow Singletary, Anita Tiner Daniel, Patricia Tiner Smith, Norma Jean Tiner Griffin, Sandra Tiner Rider, Ritha Sheridan Tiner and Veta Mae Tiner Frazier. She was like an extra grandmother to Vivian's children, Dr. Gail Singletary Copeland, John Singletary, and Jill Singletary Richards, also Arthur Renfrow Jr.'s children, Jeff Renfrow, Anne- Marie Renfrow Isensee and Matthew Renfrow.

She had a special relationship with Paul Loveless, a great nephew, who always provided her with necessities to make her life better. Edna Renfrow and Veta also had a special relationship. She constantly sent or brought Veta food and gifts for special occasions.

Pallbearers will be John Singletary, Paul Loveless, Vernon Daniel, Denny Copeland, Cecil Singletary, Matthew Renfrow, and Perry Smith.

The Tiner- Renfrow family gives heartfelt thanks to Quality Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Staff as well as Hillcrest Baptist Medical Hospital for their outstanding care during the final days of Veta's life.

Waco, TX 76706.
