Violet Allen
Sept. 30, 1921 – March 11, 2016
Violet Josephine Allen, better known as Vi to her friends, slipped the bonds of this transitional earth and into her heavenly home on Friday, March 11, at the age of 94. Mass will be said 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 2001 N 25th Street, Waco, by Father John Guzaldo. Interment will be at the family plot at Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, Tex. Visitation will be held 6 - 8 pm Wednesday, Mar. 16, at Oakcrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco.
Vi was born on the 30th of September 1921 in the small community of Stiles, Wisconsin, the 4th of 12 siblings. Time passed and destiny took her to Dallas, Tex., where after a time she met and married Paul Leslie Allen. They were wed on the 16th day of September 1950. Paul entered the Army and served in Korea. Upon his return they moved to Austin where Paul graduated from the Highway Patrol Academy.
Paul later made Sergeant and they moved to Sweetwater. There Vi enjoyed working in a flower shop and learned what would be the end all of her avocation … Bridge!
Time passed and they moved to Bryan where Vi worked at Texas A&M, became an “Aggie at Heart for Life” and continued her pursuit of Bridge, of course. Paul attained the rank of Lieutenant and they moved to Waco.
In Waco, Vi worked for McLennan Community College and pursued her fondness of Bridge with a passion. She played the game with a zeal until August 2015 when age forced her to play her last hand and lay down her cards forever.
Never was or will be a more sincere Christian woman than Vi who spent hours in the Catholic Church from her earliest days. In Waco at St. Louis Catholic Church, she was in the choir, alter guild, and was president of the St. Louis Womens Society, and volunteered in the gift shop at Providence Hospital. How many hours? The answer is known only by Almighty God.
Vi was preceded in death in 2015 by her husband of 65 years, Paul; and her parents, John and Eva (Myaski) Gondek, and three brothers. The history of her family has been lost in antiquity.
She is survived by son, Robert S. Allen and wife, Vickie, and their son, Brad, and daughter, Marcy; son, Paul L. Allen II and his daughters, Jill Ingle and husband, Tim, and their children, Jayden, Drew and Chase; daughter, Tiffany Boeglin and husband, John, and their son, John Paul; sister-in-law, Marj Allen; many nieces and nephews; and her endeared friend, Loretta.
Pallbearers will be George Allen, Randy Jenkins, Brad Allen, Marcy Allen, Jill Allen Ingle, and Tiffany Allen Boeglin.
The family gives profound appreciation to Southern Care Hospice and all our wonderful caregivers at Brookdale Lakeshore, Waco Texas.
