Violet was born to Roy and Julia Ozment on Oct. 20, 1921 in Waco. She was the second of eight children.

Violet moved to Amarillo in 1950 where she became a pastry chef for the Y.W.C.A. and worked there for twenty-six years. Her happiest years were spent cooking for her family especially when there was a house full of children.

Besides her own six children she took care of an aging father-in-law, helped raise two brother-in-laws, two nephews, two grand daughters, and rented rooms to many single moms and helped to raise their children too. Her house was always open to any who were in need.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Julia Ozment; a daughter, Rita Chambers; grand-daughter, Jennifer Keeton; great-great-grandson, Elijah Tyler; siblings, Rube A. Ozment, Jimmy L. Ozment, Betty Cochran, Margaret Duckett, and Bobbie Olson.

She is survived by:

sons, Bill Martin and wife, Mary of Hewitt, Tx., Lonnie Martin and Robert Barnes, both of Amarillo, Tx.;
daughters, Becky Herron and husband, Bill of Hewitt, Tx., Kathy Tandy and husband Walter of Gilbert, AZ;
14 grandchildren;
23 great-grandchildren
and three great-great-grandchildren.

Her family would like to express special thanks for the wonderful staff and employees at the Courtyard at Hewitt for their love and support during Violet's last days.

Also to the many who loved her at Royal Manor for the past three years including her roommate, Katie White.

Our love and thanks to a dedicated and loving volunteer, Melayn Griffith.

Pallbearers will be Kirk Barnes, Richard Barnes, James Chambers, Jesse Chambers, Greg Martin, Chris Martin, and Brent Rhea.
