Virginia L. Evans, 74, of Woodway, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011, at her residence. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church.
Virginia was born October 24, 1936 in Lampassas. She married the love of her life and best friend, Sydney, January 27, 1957. Virginia started her nursing career in the 1970's and found a way to stay passionate about nursing forever. She was employed for many years at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and at the time of her death she was a nurse at the Getterman Wellness Center. Virginia loved the outdoors and made the journey to Big Bend, Guadalupe or to Sante Fe nearly every year. She especially loved sharing life's experiences with her grandchildren, all of whom she was so proud of. Virginia also had a great love of gardening and sewing spending many happy years pursuing both hobbies. Her love of people was evident in that she didn't know what the word "stranger" meant. She had a true gift for making people feel important and it showed by her willingness to listen and share in their life stories. Several years ago, Virginia started a bible study with a group of ladies that she looked forward to meeting with weekly. Eventually, she found her new church home at Cogdell Memorial United Methodist Church where she joined the choir and a Sunday school class.
Virginia is survived by her husband of 54 years, Sydney Edward Evans of Woodway; her daughter, Robin Evans Hill and husband, Jay; sons, Stuart Alan Evans and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Austin Evan Hill and wife, Nicole, Sydney Morgan Hill, Stuart Alan Evans Jr. and Brady Kenneth Evans.
In lieu of floral arrangements, memorials may be directed in memory of Virginia to either Providence Hospice or to Hillcrest Community Cancer Association.
