Virginia Ann Old was born on January 28, 1922 in Hugo, Oklahoma to William and Carrie Westbrook Old. She had one older brother, R. B. Herndon.

After her early childhood days in Oklahoma, the family moved to Tucson, Arizona. She spent her later youth in Tucson and attended the University of Arizona. While working at Davis-Monthan Field, she met a handsome young ensign in the U.S. Navy at a USO dance held in the Bear Down Gymnasium on the University of Arizona campus. The next morning they both coincidentally met again at the same Sunday School Class at the First Baptist Church in Tucson. On September 1, 1945, she married U.S. Navy Lieutenant Rufus W. Nash of Waco in San Diego, California following his tour of duty on the U.S.S. Enterprise. She attended Baylor University.

Virginia was instrumental in forming and leading the Sewing Class at First Baptist Church in Waco, teaching low income ladies how to make quilts and clothing for their families.

She also taught a ladies' Sunday School class for newlyweds for many years. She served on the Waco Boys Club Board of Directors for 16 years and taught the free enterprise system to high school students as a volunteer for the Waco Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, she served on the Board of Directors of the Evangelia Child Care Center.

Virginia was a founding member of the Waco Garden Forum. Gardening was a great love of hers, as she spent many hours in her yard cultivating one of the most beautiful gardens in the Waco area. Her garden was a showplace.

She became active in the mid-1980's in the management of Nash-Robinson & Co., a family-owned building materials supplier. The firm has been in business in Waco since 1890.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus on January 17th, 1999.

She was the mother of three sons, Gary Nash and wife, Peggy Brickson Nash of Dallas, Roy Nash and wife, Jane Grantham Nash of Temple, and Reuel Nash and wife, Elizabeth Kultgen Nash of Austin. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michelle Nash Justice and husband, Jay of Robinson; Heidi Nash Belson and husband, Brad of Temple; Stephen Nash and wife, Margaret Karl Nash of San Francisco, California; John Andrew Nash of Beaver Creek, Colorado; Eleanor Nash of Fort Worth; and Ann Nash and Rebecca Nash of Austin. Virginia also had four great-grandchildren, Meagan, Madison and Jack Justice and Brinley Belson.

The family wishes to thank Lucia Harper for her excellent loving care and companionship of Virginia over the last four years of her life and the Hillcrest Hospice for their tender care during Virginia's final days.
