Vivian Irene Hays, 88, of Carlton, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Harvest Hills Funeral Home in Hico with Rev. Don Caldwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Pettijohn Cemetery near Gustine. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Harvest Hills Funeral Home. Tammy Mattiza of OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco is handling the arrangements.

Vivian was born April 14, 1924 near Gustine to Jasper Applewhite (Jap) and Sara Iva (Berna) Pettijohn. She attended school in Gustine, and married on August 8, 1942 to Jack Theodore Hays. Vivian was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carlton. She loved to sew, quilt, and spend time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Wanda Edwards and Faye Robertson; and brother, Sam Pettijohn.

She is survived by daughters, Sallie Tomlinson and husband, Jimmy of Iredell, Sherry Dotson and husband Allen of Kountze, and Jackie Gill of Stephenville; son, James Hays and wife Paula of Carlton; sisters, Patricia Nelson of Comanche, Dorothy Sharp of Dublin, Shirley Kirkland and husband Don of Brownwood; brothers, Bill Pettijohn and wife, Marie of Gustine, Denny Pettijohn and wife, Marilyn, of Fairy and Henry (Joe) Pettijohn of Joshua; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
