William Henry Lockwood, 96 of Hewitt, Texas (long time resident of New Providence, NJ), entered the kingdom of heaven on April 20, 2013. Memorial service pending in New Providence, NJ.
Bill was born in Sorrento, FL on May 16, 1916. His early childhood was in Keyport, NJ, where he and his brother built their own rowboat. He graduated from Bridgeton High School; where he served on their track team and continued on to receive a Chemical Engineering degree from Newark College of Engineering (New Jersey Institute of Technology).
Bill was married to Victoria Guadalupe Gonzalez Triay of Cuba on June 16, 1945. Bill worked for the Bell Laboratories in Murray Hill NJ for 44 years where he obtained a USA Patent for his work on the Transatlantic Telephone Cable. He enjoyed archery, Harley Davidson and Indian motorcycles, love for nature, was an avid photographer, a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church and Alcoholics Anonymous. After retirement, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, walking, his dogs, volunteering at the hospital, classical music and reading.
Survivors include, sons, William Lockwood (wife, Marilyn) of Bellevue, Nebraska, Robert (wife, Margaret) of Montclair, New Jersey and Richard (wife, Suzette) of Hewitt, Texas, grandchildren, Russell, Wendy, William, Cody and Austin, great grandchildren, Darian, Ysabella, Timothy and Nyssa. Brother, Dewey (wife, Marie), nieces and nephews.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Victoria, sister, Ruth Vinzinski, parents, William and Clara Lockwood.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Presbyterian Church at New Providence NJ – Missions. The family wishes to thank staff at Emeritus Meadows Terrace, Stoney Brook and Regal Manor.
