The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque, Waco.
A gentleman of 5'6", Billy lived most of his life in Waco. He was a salesman with Hav-A-Tampa Cigar Co. and Pangburn's Chocolate Co. After retirement he worked for the Sportster in Waco in the fishing dept. It seemed that everyone knew and liked Billy Lummus for his out-going personality, genuine friendship, and caring attitude.
Billy married Jennie Ruth Kelly April 15, 1946. They had one son, Dr. Larry Lummus of Bullard, and were married 48 years.
He joined the Navy like many other young men right after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served in Hawaii and San Diego as a pharmacist mate until Jan. 1946.
Born Jan. 31,1921 to Minnie Petty and William E. Lummus, Billy was the oldest of 4 children where he got the nickname "Bubba". He lived in Canton, where he graduated from Canton H.S. as a 4-sport letterman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earnest Eugene; sister, Doris McClinton; and his wife, Jennie Ruth Lummus, both of Waco.
Billy is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Larry Lummus and Kathy Lummus of Bullard; two grandchildren, Kelly Lengacher and her husband Nathan of Frisco and Chris Lummus of Tyler; a brother, Don Lummus and his wife, Aileen of Waco; brother-in-laws Karl Kelly of Waco and Mac McClinton of Waco, and many nieces and nephews.
Billy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waco where he served as usher and along with his wife raised their son in a Christian environment. He was also an avid Baylor Bear fan hardly missing any games.
The family requests donations be made to The Salvation Army of Tyler, 633 N. Broadway, Tyler, 75702 or Breckenridge Village,15062 CR 1145, Tyler 75704.
Billy will always be our cherished dad, granddad, "bubba", uncle Bill and friend: remembered in our hearts until we meet in heaven.
