Wilma Joan Holcomb, age 87, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024. She was born on February 14, 1937 in Wills Point, Texas to James Edgar Rose and Linnie Mae Flatt Rose. She attended school in Myrtle Springs, Texas. Wilma married Marvin Edward Holcomb on May 29, 1953. Together, they built a family and raised five children: Marvajo, Barbara, Michael, Kenneth and Peggy.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 8 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Waco, Texas. Graveside service will be held Saturday, November 9 at 12:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery, 2124 S. 5th St., Waco, Texas.
Later in life, Wilma pursued her passion for plants and flowers, earning a degree in Horticulture and Floral Design from Texas State Technical College. Her love for florals bloomed into a rewarding career in the floral industry where she worked with creativity and dedication for many years. She retired from Reed’s Flowers in 2011, leaving behind a legacy of beautiful arrangements and heartfelt service to her community.
Her family remembers her as a loving mother and a source of encouragement, support and joy. Her gentle spirit, love of nature and artistic touch were reflected in all that she did. Her life was a bouquet of love, laughter and cherished memories that will forever be treasured by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; parents, James and Linnie Mae; daughters, Marvajo Hayden and Peggy Kirkland; son, Kenneth Holcomb; and great grandchild, Brayden Bigham. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Edgar, James, Jimmy and Billy.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Taylor (Odie); son, Michael Holcomb (Melinda); and grandchildren: Tina Veselka (Israel), Kristin McFarlin (Gene), Martin Felan (Emma), Christopher Holcomb (Ashlea), Corey Holcomb (Kate), Amanda Winkelman (Matt), Anthony Holcomb, Bryan Holcomb, Kenny Taylor (Michelle) and Kevin Taylor (Cathy). She is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way; sisters-in-law, Pat Rose and Billy Jean Rose; and son-in-law, Rob Kirkland.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of St. Anthony’s Care Center and Interim Hospice of Waco for their excellent care. Our mother was treated with love and respect during such a difficult time, and we are forever grateful.
