Zena Runte, 67, went to be with the Lord on May 11, 2005. A memorial service and visit with the family will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 16, 2005 at the Family Worship Center, 1920 N 25th St, Waco. The phone number is 254-756-1240. OakCrest Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Zena was born on April 28, 1938 in El Paso, Texas. She graduated from Burges High School in El Paso and completed a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Texas at El Paso and a Master's Degree in reading from the University of Oklahoma. She dedicated her life to teaching in Oklahoma, Iowa, and Texas.
She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Zena and parents, Everal and Opal Garner and her brother, Larry Garner.
Survivors include her sons, John Runte of Irving; Kevin Runte and his wife, Sharee' of Pflugerville; daughter, Joy Runte of Waco; grandchildren, Bryce, Kaitlyn, Kaleb, and Kelsey; brothers, Bob Garner; Richard Garner and his wife, Mary; and sister Elizabeth Enegren and husband, Dick.
In lieu of flowers donations made to be to a scholarship fund for future educators which has been established in Zena's honor. Donations may be sent to Zena G. Runte Scholarship, % Educator's Credit Union, PO Box 20728, Waco, TX 76702.
