Obituary for Louise Hopkins

Louise Hopkins, 91, of Waco, passed away Sunday, December 27. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at OakCrest Funeral Home with Pastor Jeremy Connell officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.

Louise was born in Waco to William and Florence (Gassaway) Edwards. She graduated from West High School in 1942. She attended Tarleton College and 4-C Business College. Afterwards she worked at Emmanuel Baptist Church as church secretary. She married Claude Hopkins in Waco on January 18, 1946, and they enjoyed 63 years together until his death in 2009.

She continued her career as secretary for the City of Waco until 1961 when she returned to Emmanuel Baptist Church for 14 years. She then went to Western Heights Baptist Church, retiring in 1990.

Throughout her life, her "hobby" was always to help others. She became a volunteer for Outpatient Surgery at Providence Hospital and served for 20 years, and taught Sunday school for many years.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an infant daughter, Deborah.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Hix and husband, Mike of Hewitt; grandsons, Jason Booker and wife, Carmen, of Lee's Summitt, Mo., Beau Nobles of Hewitt; granddaughter, Jamie Hix of Hewitt; great-grandchildren, Noah and Pacey Hix of Hewitt; brothers, Billy Edwards and wife, Evelyn of Waco, Wendell Edwards and wife, Linda of Commerce, and John Edwards and wife, Beverly of Tulsa; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family especially thanks Bluebonnet Hospice and Stoney Brook Memory Care for their loving care of mom over the past several years.
