Obituary for Oscar V. Hinojosa

Oscar Vicente Hinojosa, 80, of Harlingen, TX passed away November 9, 2016 in Waco, TX.
Visitation will be held at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco, TX on November 13, 2016 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.
Funeral service will be held at DaySpring Baptist Church on November 14, 2016 at 11:00 am with Reverend Eric Howell officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Oscar was born in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico to Porfirio and Blanca Hinojosa on July 19, 1936. He completed secondary school in Mexico and attended high school in Harlingen, Texas. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin and a Master’s degree in Mathematics from Baylor University. After a career as a field engineer for Collins Radio, he was a founding faculty member of what became Texas State Technical College (TSTC). He served in a variety of faculty and administrative capacities on the Harlingen and Waco campuses during his thirty seven years with TSTC. He enjoyed reading, music, traveling with his family, and tending his backyard orchard.

Oscar is survived by his wife of forty six years, Joye Hinojosa, his brother Alejandro (Imelda) Hinojosa Sr. of Harlingen; his son Victor (Lynne) Hinojosa of Waco; son Carlos (Emily) Hinojosa of Waco; and two granddaughters Miriam and Monica Hinojosa.

Oscar was a kind and gentle man who lived a life of integrity and faith. In honor of his generosity and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Waco Habitat for Humanity, World Hunger Relief Inc., or to the charity of one’s choice.
