Our Story

Since our founding, the guiding principle of OakCrest Funeral Home has been the commitment to treating each family who comes to us as our own with prices that show we care. With sincerity, pride, and dedication, we are committed to this time-honored tradition.

Our family first opened the doors of a funeral home in 1881. Our reputation for providing the highest quality of service grew, and today, we are privileged to serve hundreds of Central Texas families each year.

Whether you have an immediate need for our services or you wish to begin preplanning a funeral arrangement for you or someone you love, please contact us, day or night, at (254) 722-5272. We will be proud to serve you.

The OakCrest Funeral Home Story

Jim Moshinskie's dream to operate a funeral home in Waco was achieved with the purchase of OakCrest Funeral Home in 2001.

As part owner of Higginbotham Funeral Homes of Texas, Inc., Jim (also known as Dr. Mo) had already managed funeral homes in Central Texas for 20 years. So when the Higginbothams purchased OakCrest Funeral Home in 2001, Jim became a hands-on manager. You'll find him busy at the funeral home almost every day, always smiling and willing to help families any way he can. He has been involved in funeral service for 52 years as a licensed funeral director and mortician.

Since moving to Waco in 1982, Jim has been well-known for helping people. As the former Executive Director of Daniel Ambulance Service, he started Waco's first paramedic-level ambulance service, which he operated for 10 years.

A Real Success Story

In 2024, OakCrest Funeral Home celebrates its 23rd anniversary serving Waco as an overwhelming success story. Once the smallest funeral home in Waco, it is now one of the largest, proudly serving many families annually.

More and more families are changing to OakCrest to receive personalized care by our friendly, experienced staff. Our goal remains to provide individualized, honest service to each family we are privileged to serve with competitive prices that show we care. We honor all prearrangement plans from other funeral homes.

In 2011, OakCrest Funeral Home added Pecan Grove Funeral Home in Robinson, and in 2013, we added Grace Gardens Funeral Home in Woodway. In 2019, we merged with Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro and Whitney, Clifton Funeral Home in Clifton, and in 2020, with the Lawson Funeral Home in Meridian. Our latest mergers are Littlepage Funeral Home in Mart and Bellmead Funeral Home in Bellmead.

Dr. Reagan Ramsower serves as the Board Chair of Higginbotham Funeral Homes of Texas, and his great-grandfather founded our company in 1881. His wife, Glenda Ramsower, is our corporate secretary-treasurer. Their son, Ryan Ramsower, a Waco native and Baylor University graduate, serves as our CEO and as the fifth generation serving the family corporation.

Besides the Waco area, we also operate funeral homes in Stephenville, Comanche, Cleburne, Burleson, Joshua, Rising Star, Gorman, Cross Plains, Meridian, Clifton, Hillsboro, and Whitney.

Our Facility: A Historic Waco Building

Our beautiful building has historical significance to Waco. It was built in 1954 as Waco's first television station and proudly served KWTX-TV Channel 10 until 1985.

In 1998, two Waco business leaders, Gordon Robinson and John Irwin, transformed the vacant building into a beautiful funeral home. They sold it to our family in 1999. It is named for the variety of magnificent oak trees that gracefully line the driveways leading up to OakCrest Funeral Home.

A large chapel, complete with a private family room, seats 300 people. There are also three large private staterooms available for family visitations.

We welcome you to come by any time to tour our facilities and meet our staff. You will join hundreds of Waco families who have switched to OakCrest Funeral Home and found that the facilities, prices, and staff are outstanding. We are humbled and pleased to know that we truly make a difference.
